Detailed Information

At Bell Furnishing we believe in creating homes.
Homes that are classic, modern and stylish.
We’re not about trendsetting and we don’t follow fashion.
With over 65 years experience in styling homes we understand that it’s more than just selling furniture.
So who is Mr Bell???
Established in the mid 1950’s by Bert Gaught and Ken Child. Bell Furnishing stores, started life in Bell Street, Romsey hence the name, where they bought and sold antique furniture.
It wasn’t long before they decided to sell new furniture as well, and required larger premises. As they both resided in Hythe it made sense to relocate the business. It was then that they employed Dennis Quick and expanded the business to supply and fit carpets and vinyl flooring.
1975 Bert and Ken decided to retire, purchased by WT Baker limited, established in 1946 and, owned by William Baker and his son Leslie, who had 30 years industry experience. They took over in Feb 1976 and kept Dennis on until he retired. In the early 1980’s William wanted to take things a little easier so they asked John Baker the younger brother to join the company.
1986 as the business grew more staff were required and Colin Norman and Pete Broomfield joined as YTS lads later joined by Darren Hart as a salesman in 1990. In 2005 Colin Norman and his father in law Michael Upson approached Leslie and John Baker with a view to purchasing the company, the sale was agreed and went through in April 2005. Les retired in 2005 however John remained on staff at Bells until he retired in 2011.
The present day Bell Furnishing is proud to still be a family owned and operated business with Colin Norman at the helm, supported by his business partner and mother-in-law Julia Upson with Pete Broomfield and Darren Hart still at his side .
So there never was a Mr Bell
